The Captain’s Retreat has a reputation for being one of the cleanest and most comfortable places to stay in Ninilchik and the surrounding area. Even with the unique and interesting art and collectibles throughout, it would be fair to say that the host, Captain Randolph Murphy, retired “waterman ” from Tilghman Island, Maryland, is perhaps the most interesting thing you will come across there!  Hospitable and friendly, lots of guests return just to see him! He and the staff can share many references and information on Ninilchik, the Kenai Peninsula, and Alaska. The owners have traveled quite extensively in Alaska before opening the BNB, so they are a great source of information.  Our prices are very reasonable, including a delicious, full home cooked breakfast if desired. Continental breakfast is also available for those with lighter appetites. The BNB is the closest lodging to the beach where all the charter boats are put in, so it is not only a nice place to stay, but also most convenient, allowing a short amount of travel to get to your boat, a little extra time to sleep. and Captain Ran can suggest many reliable charters.  A reasonably priced lunch can be packed for you as well!  All the towels and linens are provided.

There is a cabin that sleeps 4 to 5 with a private bathroom and a small deck.  Many hours have been spent by our guests enjoying the BBQ grill, fire pit and picnic table in the backyard.

The BNB has 3 bedrooms on the 1st floor, and 2 upstairs. One bedroom sleeps 2 with a private bath.  The other 2 bedrooms can sleep up to 4 guests with full bathrooms across the hall. Upstairs has a half bath so guests share a bath downstairs. There is complimentary Wi-Fi and local phone service.

The liar’s bench, brought all the way from Tilghman Island, is a perfect spot to spin your yarn about the “big one that got away”. There is ample parking for vehicles, boats, and RVs. Of course, there is a station to clean fish with water if needed. The volcanoes are visible from the back of the BNB and all restaurants, the general store, the coffee shop, and local bar are nearby.

The village of Ninilchik is most interesting. The Russian Church is the most photographed church in Alaska. Don’t miss it!  There are many places to stay, but if you want the experience of a friendly home while you are in Ninilchik, The Captain’s Retreat is the place!
